Boxer proposes to girlfriend in the ring

The last event of the year was well supported.

Local boxing club, Box360 hosted a phenomenal fight night at Level 101 in Margate recently.

Eight clubs, consisting of 38 fighters in total, participated in the Colosseum Fight Night.
Local boxers, Samantha J Cockcroft, Ricardo Shaw, Hendry Khan, Ethan Naidoo and Tyronne du Toit won their titles on home turf.

Boxing coach and founder of Box360, Roland van Rooyen thanked all his sponsors for supporting the local event. “We had a fantastic turn-out of about 250 spectators,” he said.
The highlight of the event was when Van Rooyen got down on one knee in the middle of the boxing ring, and proposed to his girlfriend, Cailyn Ross-Adams.

“I thought if I propose to her in front of a crowd, I had an 8% chance of her saying ‘yes’,” he laughed.

Cailyn said that it was a big (but happy) surprise.

She explained that about two years ago, she saw a Facebook post of some girls boxing in a garage, and even though it was way out of her comfort zone, she decided to give it a go.

“That is where I met Roland. After a few months we became friends, and the gym really became a second family. Just like his proposal, he is an incredibly unique person who never stops surprising me. I am a very lucky lady, not only to have such an amazing man but also his beautiful daughter Geveve in my life,” she said.

The next fight night is scheduled for March 2023 at Level 101 in Margate.
