Two cops linked to double murder

A missing person docket was registered and the investigation ensued.

Five people, including two policemen, appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court yesterday (Wednesday) in connection with the murder of Dale (Danyaal) Kistna (32) and Sphelele Shongwe (24) from Marburg.

The case has been postponed for bail application to Tuesday, December 20.

The Hawks members from Port Shepstone Serious Organised Crime Investigation working together with Port Shepstone Tactical Response Team and Ugu District detectives arrested five men, aged between 38 and 47, on Tuesday this week.

They are facing charges of murder, kidnapping, defeating the ends of justice and attempted murder.

Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo of the Hawks said it’s alleged that two men were reported missing at Msinsini police station, about an hour from Port Shepstone in February this year.
A missing person docket was registered and the investigation ensued.

On February 28, a decomposed body was found at Bombo Ward, KwaNdelu Location in Msinsini, and it was positively identified as Kistna.

Investigations continued and in September 2022, the skeletal remains suspected to be Shongwe was also found in the same vicinity.

DNA samples were collected and sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis.
“It is alleged that the victims were severely assaulted by the accused, and their bodies were dumped in the bushes,” said Mhlongo.

Mhlongo added that more arrests are imminent.
