Eighteen years in prison for murder

On May 4, 2019 Ntaka fatally stabbed a victim with a knife in the neck during an argument in Mbambayi, Murchison.

The Port Shepstone Regional Magistrate’s Court recently sentenced Nhlakanipho Ntaka to 18 years imprisonment for murder and four years for assault.

According to Port Shepstone police spokesperson, Captain Petros Mpinge, on May 4, 2019 Ntaka fatally stabbed a victim with a knife in the neck during an argument in Mbambayi, Murchison.
Mpinge said eyewitnesses to the murder were able to name Ntaka who had fled the scene.

“Police investigations tracked the suspect to Ezinqoleni, however he had already fled to Durban. Persistence paid off when he was arrested in 2019 in Isipingo. Ntaka had a previous conviction for murder for which he had received a suspended sentence of five years.

On Friday, December 2, Ntaka was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment for murder and four years for assault,” said Mpinge, adding that he was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

He said the sentences are to run concurrently.

Meanwhile, Ugu District Detective Commander Brigadier Bongani Sibiya welcomed the sentence by the investigating officer, Detective Captain Lami Mjweni and the tenacity of the detective team who traced and arrested the suspect.
“Criminals are reminded that they will be found, they can run but they cannot hide from the long arm on the law,” he said.
