Lengthy prison term for murderer

He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

The Port Shepstone Regional Magistrate’s Court recently sentenced Nhlakanipho Ntaka (27) to a lengthy prison term, for the murder of a Murchison resident.

On May 4, 2019, Ntaka and the victim had an argument, he produced a knife and fatally stabbed the victim in the neck.
The incident happened in Mbambayi Ward, Murchison and eyewitnesses were able to name Ntaka after he fled the scene.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Sibu Ncane said during an investigation, Ntaka was tracked to Ezingolweni, however he fled to Durban.

“Persistence paid off when he was arrested in Isipingo in 2019. It was also established that Ntaka had a previous murder conviction for which he had received a suspended sentence of five years. He was sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment for murder and four years for assault. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm. The sentences are to run concurrently,” said Ncane.
Ugu Detective Commander Brigadier Bongani Sibiya welcomed the sentence by the investigating officer, Detective Captain Lami Mjweni and the tenacity of the team that traced and arrested Ntaka.

“Criminals are reminded that they will be found, they can run but they cannot hide from the long arm of the law,” Sibiya said.
