‘A greener and safer Umdoni Municipality’

KZN MEC for the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Siboniso Duma is leading the province-wide campaign to motivate communities play a significant role towards the management of waste, keeping neighbourhoods clean, green and safe.

“Keeping our town clean is important not only for keeping the environmental surroundings clean but also for attracting investors to our area in search of business
opportunities.”

The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Siboniso Duma, stated during a Good Green Deeds event held at Umzinto Town Hall last Monday.

Duma said a clean town attracts potential investors to boost the local economy.

Duma is leading the province-wide campaign to motivate communities play a significant role towards the management of waste, keeping neighbourhoods clean, green and safe.

The MEC said over and above the awareness of a clean and healthy environment, the EDTEA department has an abundance of business opportunities, adding that communities need to familiarise themselves with those opportunities and duly benefit from them.

Meanwhile, Umdoni Municipality Mayor, Sibongile Khathi highlighted that the municipality has intensified its clean up campaigns to ensure that Umdoni area is kept clean and remains a great attraction to investors and holidaymakers.

“We are proud to mention that Umdoni is working hard to transform the area into a jewel of the South Coast. We now have an additional four Blue Flag pilot status beaches which brings the total to six. This is a great achievement for our municipality and this proves that we working hard in keeping our local environment clean,” said Khathi.
