Naickers are Alliance League winners

Book now for the Christmas Alliance.

The final instalment of the 2022 Alliance League at Umkomaas Golf Club was played in wet conditions once again, it seems an annoying habit that the rain comes down on a golf day.

One cannot complain though as the rains are right on time to maximise the benefits from the recent fertilisation treatment on the course, and we are already seeing the benefits of lusher, greener fairways and softer greens.

Winning by an impressive 16-point margin over the eight games, the Naickers team of Tom, Tash and Dheen Naicker and Kuben Naidoo took top honours in the league. Runners-up were regular prize-winners, the Umkomaasters, who were happy to honour their late teammate Nelson Moonsamy, after his passing earlier this month.

Saturday’s winners were the Southern Lights, made up of Wally Kent, Ken Koster, Russell Cumming and Neil de Villiers on an impressive score of 92 points! They finished eight points ahead of the next best, with Par Patrol (Devlyn Fraser, John Webster, Natalie Singer and Christo van de Heever) being counted out by the Umkomaasters.

The jackpot was shared by Viv Naicker, Devlyn Fraser and Ken Koster. Two club money was split ten ways, Damien O’Connell (x2), Wally Kent (x2), Russell Cumming, Dheen Naicker, Viv Naicker, Max van de Heever, Rory Bernardis and Bryan Kassel.

The ladies section traditionally hosts the Christmas Alliance and this year the competition will take place on Saturday, December 17. Members and visitors are welcome and if you don’t have a full team, don’t worry, simply contact the Pro Shop and they’ll find you a game.

The fourball alliance will include best dressed competition, nearest the pins, and a straightest drive and there are always plenty festive prizes on offer. Avoid disappointment and get your tee time booked today!
