“Work together to fight crime,” says IFP

Organisations ready to step in and help fight crime in the Port Shepstone CBD

The chairperson of the IFP in Ugu, Sfundo Ngwane said the party is devastated by the shocking reports of the escalating crime in Port Shepstone CBD.

“We call on all stakeholders to come together to fight crime in our beautiful town. We need to protect our elderly people who are no longer safe when collecting their pension. We request that the taxi industry at regional level under the leadership of Lizwi Maphumulo to come up with solutions to protect customers against criminals.”

Ngwane added that the police must be visible together with municipal law enforcement units in all corners.

“As the IFP when given the go-ahead, we can organise our own volunteers to protect people. We are prepared to discuss means and ways to combat crime with the SAPS General Agnes Nxamagele and HOD for public safety Sibusiso Nzimande of Ray Nkonyeni Municipality, and also the taxi industry.”

Ngwane also added that the Amakhosi should be called on so that they can also assist by sending izinduna to town to work with law enforcement agencies. “If we were able to protect shops during the looting, how can we fail to protect lives of people in town.

The regional chairperson of the South African National Taxi Council, Lizwi Maphumulo said a meeting was held on Monday last week, and it was a great success.

“We have put together our own team that we will pay from our own pockets. We have engaged with the RNM to inform them.”

Maphumulo said the team consists of local people from different areas and a few taxi people who watch out for criminals.
Port Shepstone Business Against Crime and Port Shepstone CPF also embarked on a successful mass patrol with security companies, RNM law enforcement and Afriforum.
