NPO receives generous donation

Much needed orthopedic equipment welcomed by association.

The Association for the Physically Challenged (APC) South Natal Branch which operates from Hibberdene to Port Edward received a generous donation of orthopaedic equipment from the South African Muslim Charitable Trust (SAMCT) last week.

The growing demand for orthopaedic equipment in Port Shepstone had put an incredible strain on the APC.
The SAMCT Trust handed over new equipment to the value of R96 000. Representing the Trust at the handover, Gaff Osman said: “The years of restrictions associated with the Covid-19 pandemic has taken its toll on the physically challenged. As a consequence, the APC lower South Coast branch found it difficult to keep up with required orthopaedic equipment supply and this led to SAMCT lending a helping hand with new equipment.”

The APC and its dedicated staff have long enjoyed a sound reputation for providing an excellent service to the physically challenged in its area. Mandy van der Merwe, APC area manager said: “The need for orthopaedic equipment was so much more during the Covid-19 pandemic. I approached SAMCT and was blessed beyond words when they decided to give us this kind donation to continue to carry out our work.

“On behalf of the executive committee of the APC we thank the trustees for the approval of funds towards much needed orthopaedic equipment.”
SAMCT was established in 2008 to act as a conduit for the provision of funding assets, services and other resources to approved public benefit organisations. It has made significant donations towards poverty alleviation, empowerment, community upliftment and sustainability programmes.
