Borehole golf day coming up at Scottburgh

There's been a lot of fun and banter enjoyed at Scottburgh Golf Club this past week.

The borehole fund has reached quite a substantial amount and the fundraisers are having a golf day to top out the final amount. The purpose of the re-establishment of the borehole is to supplement the grey water used for irrigation. The fundraising day is November 26 and will be a betterball Stableford with giveaways and great prizes.

Members played an individual Stableford last Wednesday. It seems as if the handicapping system has caught up with one or two of us as the winning score was just 36 points. Graham Brown made that for a bottle of brandy along with John Mills filling up his wine racks for being counted out. Never far from the captain’s table was Deane Jooste who rolled in for third spot. Once again, Mike Eley claimed the hidden holes and rolled in a 2-club to boot, with Gary Jones also knocking one in.

Pete Gilliver likes taking money from his pal and playing partner Pete Morris. In the 5-pin last Friday he did it again with Pat Palmer coming second. Seth Giraudeau won the pocket of ‘nearly news’.

P&G Construction held its monthly betterball day last Saturday, with the course in great condition after the previous night’s downpour. Making hay while the sun shone, Ian Walker and Mike Bremner returned in good time for the rugby with 41 points. Just one point further back was Graham Brown and Deon Steyn on 40 which counted out another ever present Deane Jooste and Bob Hall.

Nearest the pins went to Steven Myburgh (5th) and Graham Brown (10th). Another cut and paste job this time for Deanne Jooste who made his customary 2-club. Steven Myburgh and Alwyn Stander had the misfortune to pat the Stone on the head once again. It was great to see Brian Richards back playing as he’s been sidelined with a serious medical problem. Mike Hendriks, a sometimes star winger of Germiston Callies, also pitched up, only to be relieved of a couple of Rand from his old mate Bob Hall.

Coming up, Wednesday is a Combined Stableford and Saturday is the Monthly Medal sponsored by the Local Choice Pharmacy. KWV will be sponsoring a golf day this Sunday, with plenty of prizes and open to all.
Flyer’s footnote: If you try to smash the cover off the ball you usually find that the divot goes a lot further than the ball.
