Hole-in-one for young golfer Seth

A betterball Stableford takes place this week.

It was the captain and manager who walked away with first place last Wednesday. Bob Hall and Deane Jooste posted 42 points for a one point win over second placed Mike Eley and that old rascal Spoekie on 41, it’s about time someone looked into Spoekie’s handicap.

John Mills got the only 2 club and the hidden holes are on leave. New members Alwyn Stander and Stephen Myburgh were introduced to the Stone and furnished a greenback for its upkeep.

Friday’s five pin was a real humdinger. Griet Viviers made 11 points to take home R200 and Jason Gilliver outdid dad Pete on a count out for second place with 10 points and a blueback. Star of the show, however was new junior – 12 year old Seth Giraudeau.

Seth finished the 5 pin and he and mate Sam Diamond and Sam’s dad carried on to the back 9 where Seth promptly hit his tee shot on the 10th down the hole for a hole-in-one! Seth has been a member for just three months and some of our very older members (yours truly included) have been trying for many years and still waiting for that glorious moment. Well done Seth.

Halfway Toyota were the sponsors for Saturday’s combined Stableford with each player receiving a bottle of windscreen washing liquid before setting off. Still friends and speaking to one another are Barry Kisten and Kevin Ramkisson with 73 points to easily win the day.

Stephen Myburgh getting over Wednesday’s tribulation teamed up with son Brandon for second place and 64 points. John Mills and Graham Brown were two points behind on 62 for third place. Stephen rubbed it in by rolling in a 2 club with TM Moodley and the wind blew away the hidden holes.

The ladies now that they’re on ‘par’ with the men got into the act with Linda Hall and Mandy Jones stepping up to lift the Stone.

On Wednesday it’s a betterball Stableford and the Gradwell family will be sponsoring Heno’s birthday bash. Henry of course was a valuable member and president and kept the club going with his boundless enthusiasm and deep pockets for many years. The list is on the board and quickly filling up for what promises to be a great day.

The interclub tournament is coming up in November to be played at San Lameer and Southbroom golf courses and a list is on the board looking for members to participate in the Senior Frog division. Further inquiries can be made with Deane or Bob at the club.

Flyer’s footnote: Golf is the only sport where a man of sixty years plus can play with the younger members, that’s why its such a great game and no one has ever licked it.
