Scottburgh goes pink for Lettie

The Mid South Coast has lost one of its true heroes.

ATHLETE, adventurer and inspiration to many, Nikki ‘Lettie’ Haynes finally lost her battle with cancer last Saturday.

Hundreds of friends, fans and competitors are expected to ‘go pink’ as a tribute to her memory at Main Beach this Saturday (19th) for the Scottburgh to Brighton Surfski race.

Pennington’s Lettie touched the lives of many with her brave fight against cancer which she discovered while breast feeding the youngest of her three children two years ago.

She endured the necessary harsh treatment and everyone thought she had won… for a while. But it was not to be.

She and her husband Zoog’s inspirational blog, Mamu Loman, gave fellow sufferers insight into the ups and downs of Lettie’s fight, their faith in God, and their determination to endure hardships.

In spite of the cancer, Lettie still supported epic adventures, including the Coastal Challenge, Lettie Paddle, Lettie Run and Lettie’s Ride to name but a few.

Her parting message: “Tell someone how much you love them, appreciate your health, vitality and mobility, get up and make a difference, respect another’s opinion, have the courage to resolve a difference, be kind…”

Lettie’s “going away party” will be held at Umdoni Park Golf Club on Friday, July 18 at noon. The family ask that everyone “brings happy hearts”. Instead of flowers, her wish was for people to pay for some random couple’s dinner bill on their next night out and sign it: “With love from Lettie”.
