Baptie welcomed to KZN Legislature team

He served the DA in Ugu North since 2007.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature has officially welcomed former DA Ugu North Caucus leader and councillor, Edwin Baptie.

Baptie was sworn in by KZN Legislature Speaker, Nontembeko Boyce recently.

The move comes after the departure of former DA MPL, Dr Rishigen Viranna who has been awarded a two-year scholarship to study global health in Sweden.

“Baptie joins the DA KZN Legislature Caucus after having secured strong growth for the DA in Ugu North during his time as caucus leader, since 2007,” said Zwakele Mncwango, MPL – Chief Whip to the DA in the KZN Legislature.

“This is as a result of a proactive and no-nonsense approach to ongoing challenges, in particular unprecedented water issues experienced by local residents during the past few years.”

He has also served as Ugu North Constituency chairman since 2016.

“The DA has no doubt that he will make a significant contribution to our caucus, and his broad and varied experience at municipal level, with its many complexities, will be invaluable.”

His particular role within the caucus is yet to be announced.
