Whale washes ashore near Port Edward [Warning graphic images]

Locals and visitors flocked to the beach.

A whale washed up south of Port Edward yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon.

The humpback whale.

It appears the young humpback whale may have been hit by a boat, or attacked by a shark.

The whale washed up onto the rocks.

All the relevant authorities, including the municipality and KZN Sharks Board were notified.

Dr Yvette Ehlers Smith, District Ecologist for Ezemvelo, KZN Wildlife examines the dead whale.
