Policemen praised for good deed

Two women stranded on the road were assisted by police.

Scottburgh local Gayle Wilkinson thanks the Scottburgh Saps members who assisted her and her mother Joy Lowe during a time of need last Monday.

The women were on their way to Umdoni Retirement Village to fetch a carpet they had just bought when the vehicle they were travelling in began overheating about halfway between Scottburgh and Pennington leaving them stuck on the road.

“We were forced to stop on a bad patch of the road on a corner,” explained Wilkinson.

Two officers in a police van, Warrant Officer Francois van Rensburg and Constable Ixchan Ramdalal, noticed the women in trouble and stopped to assist them. Another van with two Scottburgh Saps reservists, Constables Mthembeni Myeza and Mbuso Gumbi, came to their aid as well.

The women were given water for their car and directed through traffic safely.

“We would like to say to those who feel the Saps don’t care about the community, it is not true as they were helpful and did the job with no problems whatsoever.”

Wilkinson added that she believes this good deed will spread positivity for local police and show the community that there are officers that care.

The story was shared on social media and the officers received a lot of praise for their act of kindness.

“Thank you Scottburgh Saps for saving two stranded women alone on a deserted stretch of road. May you be blessed.”
