New leadership for Hibiscus Coast Rotary

It's the start of the new Rotary year for Gavin and Cathy.

The Rotary Club of Hibiscus Coast heralded a new chapter in the organisation at the induction ceremonies of District Governor, Gavin Jepson and President, Cathy De Boer at the picturesque Izotsha Creek Estate last Saturday.

Gavin was inducted by Past District Governor Douglas Kent, as the new Rotary District Governor for District 9370. Cathy was inducted as the President of the Rotary Club of Hibiscus Coast (Margate and Uvongo) by Past President Brian Blumrick.

The 2022-2023 Rotary International Motto is ‘Imagine Rotary’. This was beautifully reflected in the exquisite floral arrangements – the iris represented, faith, hope, courage, wisdom and admiration.

In his address, Gavin said it was a privilege and a honour to be recognised, and he looks forward to working with the team. “The district in the past year faced many challenges with Covid-19 and no meetings, but the team proved to be stronger, more motivated and ready to go forward as restrictions have eased. We are blessed in this district to have many willing, able and talented volunteers and Rotarians who make things happen. The more you put into Rotary the more you will get out.”

His five priorities for the year include capacity building, female and youth leadership development, mission development and fundraising. He added that by working together they can achieve success.

Incoming President, Cathy de Boer congratulated and thanked Past President Brian Blumrick for being an outstanding President, who with his wife Brenda, dedicated themselves towards Rotary, exemplifying Rotary’s motto of ‘Service above Self’.

In her incoming speech Cathy stated that Jennifer Jones, Rotary International President, is a pioneer for women. “After 117 years we finally have a woman as Rotary International President. Jennifer Jones “urges people to dream big and harness their connections and the power of Rotary to turn those dreams into reality.”

Cathy also added that they are fortunate to have an incredible Past Assistant Governor Anne Thompson and District Governor Gavin Jepson, in the vibrant Hibiscus Rotary Club. She is also looking forward to assistant Governor Rowan D’Arcy guiding the team forward. “Building upon the strengths of the past, and imaginatively and creatively going forward.”

The Paul Harris Fellowship awards went to Dubretha and Jan Oosthuizen, Anita Vorster and Johnny de Wet and Angus McLachlan. The President’s Award for 2021-2022 was proudly handed to well-deserving recipients, Alison Loumeau and Annatjie de Wet.
