Beware of imposters posing as police

It is also emphasised that the public never make any deposits to such people.

Police appeals to complainants and victims who have opened criminal cases to record the case number and the details of the investigating officer.

This request is made after reports have indicated that imposters are contacting the victims of crime and are purporting that they are investigating the case.

“They are asking for monies to be deposited into banking accounts in order for the recovered properties to be handed back,” explained Scottburgh Saps communications officer, Captain Adam Francis.

“Always liaise with the investigating officer or the branch commander of the unit and not any other person.”

It is also emphasised that the public never make any deposits to such people.

If you have experienced a crime similar to this, it is of utmost importance that you report the incident to your nearest police station or contact Crime Stop on 086 0010111.
