Noel bags third career hole-in-one

He said that everyone watched the ball pitch two metres short of the flag and ran straight at it but were all a little weary to start celebrating yet.

It was yet another hole-in-one for Noel Parsonage when he scored an ace on the 17th at the club competition at Umkomaas last Saturday.

He’s had two previously, one at Sakabula and another at Durban Country Club, a real feather in his cap given that he’s only been playing the game for a little more than a decade.

When asked about the hole-in-one on Saturday, Noel said: “I trusted the range finder’s distance of 168m and hit a 6-iron draw at the left edge of the right bunker allowing the wind to drift the ball across to the pin which was positioned front right.”

He said that everyone watched the ball pitch two metres short of the flag and ran straight at it but were all a little weary to start celebrating yet.

“I couldn’t trust my eyesight, and so grabbed the range finder, happily confirming that the ball had in fact dipped below the surface and then the celebrations started!”

It was the all-ladies team of Sue Boucher and Janet Boyd who took top spot in Saturday’s Betterball Bonus Bogey, scoring an impressive +8.

The ladies each managed a two club, Sue on the 4th and Janet on the 13th, which certainly assisted their score. The win was especially enjoyable for Janet who is new to golf and has only recently begun playing in competitions.

Nigel Hensen and Barrie Taylor’s +5 was good enough for second spot, while third was won on count-out by Noel and Heather Parsonage on +4. Fourth place, also on +4 was awarded to Fazel Khan and Kuben Naidoo.

The remaining two club pot was shared with the ladies by Mikey Eriksen (9th) and Dave Kemp (4th).

Ian Mills’ 36 points saw him take top spot in a 28-player field in the mid-week IPS competition. He was followed closely by Trevor Osborne who scored 35 points to take second. Third and fourth place on 34 points was decided by count-out with Richard Anderson pipping Harold Horsley, and Jeremy Boyd unlucky not to place.

Congratulations must also be extended to members ‘The Naickers’ who competed in the Sardine Run held over the long weekend at Scottburgh Golf Course. Unfortunately, the gents lost on a count out, but we’re delighted with their excellent golf, and for flying the Umkomaas flag high, as always.

Members are reminded that the Club Champs will take place on July 2 and 3, and those wishing to enter should do so ASAP by placing their name on the board or by calling the Pro Shop on 039 9731042.
