Feast of rugby for Warriors

The team weathered some early onslaught from the visitors, but once this was done, the floodgates opened and they ran in six more tries, with Madlala grabbing a hattrick.

South Coast Warriors continued their winning streak with an emphatic 43-5 victory over Pietermaritzburg RC at Douglas Mitchell Sports Ground last Saturday. An unbelievable solo effort try by Lunga Madlala at the start of the match set tone for the afternoon.
The team weathered some early onslaught from the visitors, but once this was done, the floodgates opened and they ran in six more tries, with Madlala grabbing a hattrick. There was a try each for Jade Nyman, Tiaan van Staden, Sheldon Rivabella and Tiaan Breytenbach, with four conversions from Daryn Nyman.
The Warriors are at home again this Saturday, against Jaguars, with the firsts kicking off at 15:30.

The second team came through triumphant in a must-win game, the final score 12-5 in a bruising encounter. Tries were scored by Sphe Mbili and Liam Parker-Dennison, with one conversion from Michael Helmand.

It was a rugby weekend of note, as the Warriors hosted the DSRU mini rugby day at Douglas Mitchell the next day (Sunday). The club really put on a wonderful show for the Durban clubs to enjoy. Blessed with a beautiful winter’s day, some 300 players, aged five to 11 years old, took part in the 30 matches played on the day.
There were an estimated 1500 spectators on the day. All the local teams played well and represented the club with great pride. Warriors thanked all the parents who made the day such a great success. In addition, a huge and heartfelt thanks was extended to Ockie Pretorius and family (Wimpy Southcoast Mall and Shelly Centre) for the generous sponsorship on the day and contribution to the club in general.

The SKZN U20 team made it four out of four wins at home by beating Midlands 90-0. Next up, the U20s take on unbeaten UKZN U20 at Genesis Youth Centre, which promises to be a very tight game. Kickoff is at 15:00.In the Southern KZN league, Kapaailand beat Kokstad 13-10 and Matatiele outclassed Amangcesha 63-0.
