Shelly Beach NSRI to the rescue of yacht off Ramsgate

Once the yacht was assisted by crew from Shelly Beach NSRI it continued its journey to East London.

Volunteers from Shelly Beach National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) came to the rescue of a troubled yacht off the coast of the KZN South Coast earlier today.

The yacht which was taking part in the Vasco da Gama Ocean Race 2022 from Durban to East London, got into trouble when it began to take in water.

Glen Preston of Med-Evac said they arrived at the vessel and began to pump the water out.

At the time of talking to Preston, they were off the coastline of Ramsgate.

“Once we pump the water out we will know if it’s damaged or not. We have also brought diesel as well,” he said.

The yacht named Adios, has withdrawn from the race, but the team is hoping to get back to East London.
