Scottburgh athletes take on Two Oceans marathon

Ricky Pillay ran his 28th Two Oceans ultra marathon in a time of 6:54.

Scottburgh Athletics Club was well represented at the Two Oceans half marathon and ultra marathon in Cape Town during the Easter weekend.

In the half marathon which took place on the Saturday, Dave Tredway in the 60-69 age group completed the 21.1km in a time of 2:20, Samantha Rein and Hayden Gooding in 1:56 and Merrick Kennedy in 1:30. Well done!

On the Sunday, three athletes ran the 56km ultra marathon – Elouise Jones in 6:18 and Dana Daniels in 6:21. It was their first Two Oceans ultra and both have said they will be back to run what is known as the most beautiful ultra marathon in the world.

Ricky, along with Sue McAlpine was recently awarded Lifetime Membership at the club, for their loyalty and dedication over the span of 30 years. Ricky will be running his 29th Comrades this year.

Merrick ‘Mez’ Kennedy took on the gruelling challenge of the Ultra Trail Drakensberg 100km on April 23.

He completed the race with an elevation of 2892m in a time of 18:52 along with his good friend and training buddy, who is also originally from Scottburgh, Mike Tredway. Well done to both of you!

Scottburgh Athletics Club has a 25km Beloved Long Run with Dean Wight on Saturday, May 7 starting at the Scottburgh Golf Club. The cost is R50 and all are welcome – including walkers. Shorter distance options are also available. Details will be posted next week.
