Marathon runners enjoy Two Oceans success

Five athletes from different clubs on the South Coast took part in Africa’s second biggest running event, the Two Oceans in Cape Town, over the Easter weekend.
Two Oceans traditionally has four major events: 56km Ultra Marathon, 21km Half Marathon, 25km/12km Trail Run and the Cape Town International Friendship Run.
Some 25 000 runners from around the world took part.
The three South Coast Striders, clearly visible in their bright kit, who ran were MK Mufamadi, Moira Jones and Ann Naidu.
MK ran the 56km in 6:48. Moira and Ann completed the half-marathon (21km) comfortably, way ahead of the 2:30 cut-off time to earn themselves their first Two Oceans medal.
Also spotted at the race were two members from the local Saps, Sergeant Bonginkosi Gikiki Cwele and Warrant Officer Vincent van Aswegen, representing Ugu AC and Nedbank Running Club respectively.
The race is known for its never-ending climbs towards the end of the marathon, hence for many marathoners this event was used as a preparation for the Comrades Marathon in August.
MK is appealing to the runners who are interested in joining the club to obtain the yearly membership and yearly running licences at the clubhouse, on Wednesdays.
Members of South Coast Striders are reminded about the AGM/EGM at the clubhouse in Edward Avenue, Uvongo this Saturday (23rd) at 14:00.
