Refuse collection service still a problem

Umdoni Municipality has since apologised to local communities for the disruption of the refuse collection service.

For several weeks, Umdoni’s refuse collection service has been unable to collect residents’ refuse as per the weekly schedule resulting in garbage bags piling up outside homes and business premises for days.

Besides affecting locals, many holidaymakers will now unfortunately have to bear with these awful sights as they are now also in the area for the Easter holiday.

Umdoni Municipality has since apologised to local communities for the disruption of the refuse collection service.

“While we have experienced challenges with our refuse collection resources, the municipality worked around the clock to ensure mitigation of the current backlog,” said Sphelele Cele, Umdoni’s communications manager.

“It must also be noted that during our efforts of remedying the situation, the municipality’s services were further derailed by the Kelso community unrest.”

As a result of this unrest for service delivery matters, the municipality is unable to access the landfill site.

The municipality further pleads with Umdoni residents to exercise patience while it works towards restoration of the interrupted service.
