Crime spikes in St Mike’s

The community safety forum has sounded a warning.

UVONGO Community Safety Forum chairman Ernest Booysen has warned residents that the St Michael’s area has become Uvongo’s latest crime hot spot.

Housebreaking statistics have recently spiked in Orange Rocks Road, Crown Road, Bay Road, Ridge Road and Fleet Road. These incidents are mainly occurring during daylight hours.

Residents in Ridge Road and Fleet Street are now setting up a Block Watch for the area. Ernest appealed to all homeowners in the affected streets to keep a lookout for suspicious behaviour.

“Stay alert and safe,” he said.

He also reminded Uvongo senior citizens about the annual grandparents’ walk, starting at St Michael’s on July 9, at 8.30am.

“We normally support this wonderful event as a group from the forum. We don’t usually rely on sponsorship but pay our own entry fee of R50 per person. This includes a very nice breakfast after the walk,” he said.
