Malangeni vegetable farmer creates employment

With just a hectare of land, Nyuswa has made himself a successful local farmer and created jobs for several residents in the area.

Nduduzo Nyuswa from Malangeni, Umzinto has created employment for himself and members of his community through farming.

The young farmer was not always in this field as he previously obtained a Bachelors Degree in Psychology in 2019 and has been struggling to find a job ever since.

In March last year, he was fortunate enough to get a job at a factory in Umzinto which produces school uniforms, but due to Covid-19 restrictions and lockdown, he lost his job in October.

Nyuswa hated the fact that he was unemployed once again and wanted to help his community as well, so he asked his father for a piece of land to start farming and create his own employment.

“Luckily, my father agreed and gave me the land I needed to start my farming business,” said Nyuswa.

“I then negotiated a deal with local tuck-shop owners to supply them with spinach, cabbage and green peppers because they travel many miles to get these vegetables and I am much closer to them making purchases more convenient.”

With just a hectare of land, Nyuswa has made himself a successful local farmer and created jobs for several residents in the area.

Even though he is doing well, he seeks community assistance to help him continue his work and keep the line of employment open for the community .

“I desperately need someone to sponsor sprinklers, water tanks and a borehole system as I have to travel a lot to fetch water for irrigation purposes and this slows down my productivity,” he explained.

“I also have no funding to plough my land further and to pay for my employees so every bit of help and donations will be much appreciated.”

Nyuswa is willing to allow people to visit his farm to verify his story.
