SERIAL RAPIST THREAT: R20 000 reward offered for information on Sea Park rapist

If you have any information on the rapist mentioned in the story, contact the nearest police station or Detective Warrant Officer Mark John on 039 6819900 or 062 1969404, or 10 111.

A reward of R20 000 has been offered for any information that will lead to the arrest of what appears to be a serial rapist and criminal responsible for various crimes committed in Sea Park recently.

The leafy suburb was hit with the news of another rape this week, further fueling fears after a spate of violent crime in the area over the past few months.

Residents believe the crimes have been committed by one man, branded the Sea Park Serial Rapist (see identikit), who it is alleged has been linked to another rape, attempted rape, shooting and at least two attempted burglaries.

The latest incident involves a woman (45), who was tied up and raped in her home by an armed gunman on Tuesday evening.

Police spokesman Captain Petros Mpinge confirmed the incident, saying the woman had returned home from work at about 16:45 to find an unknown man in her house.

He was armed with a knife and a firearm.

“He then tied up the woman and raped her. He then fled, taking certain items,” he said.

Southport Saps has opened a case of house robbery for investigation.

Warrant Officer Dalene Meyer of the Port Shepstone Saps Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC) urges all residents to work with police to protect crime scenes in order to protect all possible evidence.

Mpinge said police are still searching for the person in the identikit and following up all possible information.

The man is believed to be tall, aged between 25 and 30 years old. He carries a gun and knife, is well dressed, with a shaved head. He has droopy eyes, full lips and is dark in complexion.

This week has also seen the Southport Sector 1 Policing Forum hold its annual general meeting.

Speaking at the meeting, Captain Sunil Singh, of Southport Saps, said the issue of the Sea Park rapist had been the lowest point in his policing career since 2017.

However, he reassured residents that Saps members have obtained evidence and were hoping to have someone in custody soon.

Warrant Officer Dalene Meyer of the Port Shepstone Saps Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC) urged residents to report every single incident to the police, and to preserve crime scenes so fingerprints and DNA could be lifted.

“If you happen to have a crime take place at your home or business, please don’t touch anything until the police arrive. Put a bucket over any footprints or items used in the crime, so all the evidence can be lifted from the crime scene. Evidence is very important!” she said.

“It might take a few hours but we will attend to the crime scene, so don’t be discouraged, rather call the police station on 039 6884000/4025 to follow-upon your case.”

Chairman John Irven and vice-chairman Carole Potter will continue to serve on the Southport Sector 1 Policing Forum for another term.

If you have any information on the rapist mentioned in the story, contact the nearest police station or Detective Warrant Officer Mark John on 039 6819900 or 062 1969404, or 10 111.
