WATCH: RNM still waiting to elect mayor and deputy mayor

Council meeting has not started as yet.

Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) is probably the only local municipality that has not elected a Mayor and Deputy Mayor.

Last Tuesday, RNM held its first council meeting after the local government elections, but only the Speaker was elected.

Today is the day and the last day for this municipality to fill these two positions.

By the look of things no one is sure what is going to happen.

ANC members are outside RNM main offices in Port Shepstone protesting and have closed the entrance to these offices.

It is believed that the members of the party are not happy with the mayoral candidate that is being deployed by the province.

Leader of the Inkatha Freedom Party, Sfundo Ngwane says they will not elect anyone today and they will be contesting for the position.

ANC spokesperson Lindo Mzimela could not be reached for comment.

Law enforcement and SAPS are visible outside the RNM offices.
