House gutted in fire in KwaNzimakwe

She said she then heard footsteps outside and called for her grandchildren to check who was outside because they usually locked the gate.

A fire destroyed a large part of a house at KwaNzimakwe last Wednesday afternoon.

Khanyisile Shusha (64) said she had returned home after visiting a doctor and had taken a nap.

A bedroom was also gutted by the fire.

She said she then heard footsteps outside and called for her grandchildren to check who was outside because they usually locked the gate.

“While I was getting up to see who it was, I heard something being thrown inside the house, then the fire started.”

A bedroom was burnt but luckily they managed to stop the fire before it spread.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Sibu Ncane said Port Edward police received information regarding a house on fire at Kwanzimakwe.

“Police arrived to find that two rooms were already burnt and the fire was spreading to another big house. Fortunately they managed to stop the spread of the fire before it caused more damage.”

Ncane said Port Edward police have opened a case for investigation, but no arrests have been made yet.
