Margate Saps and PMB mounties visit local schools

Learners were also educated about duties of the police at large, including police horses.

Margate Saps, together with Margate youth desk, community safety and liaison along with the Pietermaritzburg Mounted Unit held an awareness event at Margate Primary and Bashise Primary Schools on September 23.

The event was based on substance abuse, sexual offences, bullying and gender based violence.

Learners were also educated about duties of the police at large, including police horses.

They were then given the opportunity to ask questions and learners were also questioned regarding the topics of the day.

Prizes were awarded to those learners who answered correctly.

Both school principals thanked all parties who participated and ensured that the Pietermaritzburg Mounted Unit visited their schools.

Margate acting station commander Colonel Jeremiah Nel applauded members for the initiative.

He added that it was an unforgettable experience for learners as many of them have never seen horses in reality before.
