Road users hope for ‘grader’ times

Umdoni mayor, Sibongile Khathi received the new machinery in Renishaw last week and said this new tool of trade would ensure a faster pace in responding to requests to fix roads and effectively address the current backlog.

Umdoni Municipality has added a grader to its plant, in order to address service delivery backlogs with regards to the rehabilitation and maintenance of roads, particularly in rural areas.

“This brings the number of graders to five which now translates to each cluster having its own grader,” explained the municipality’s communications officer, Zime Gcaba.

Umdoni mayor, Sibongile Khathi received the new machinery in Renishaw last week and said this new tool of trade would ensure a faster pace in responding to requests to fix roads and effectively address the current backlog.

“Several gravel roads and access routes to our communities are a mess and the rain has made things worse for us,” she said.

“We will now be working hand in hand with technical services and make sure these matters are dealt with and that complaints from the community are responded to.”
