Valuable experience for Umkomaas Golf Club’s IPT rookies

Umkomaas Golf Club is pleased to have multiple provincial players amongst its members.

Bernardis twins, Rory and Jordan, took part in the U13 IPT at ERPM and although they had hoped to have played better golf, they both thoroughly enjoyed the experience, including gaining new friends.

Rory especially relished being part of the KZN team which secured third place overall.

Sabiha Bacaus-Hulley competed in her maiden IPT, held at Rondebosch Golf Club, and should be congratulated on competing well in what is a strenuous four consecutive days of 36 holes.

She and foursomes partner Kayla Saunders, both rookies, combined very well to win two out of three foursomes matches during the week.

Windy conditions and even some rain, as is to be expected in the Cape, made things a little more challenging on the final day, but the KZN team is to be congratulated on finishing second in their pool.

In local news, Fazel Khan has been playing for just over a year now, and his game is really coming on, proof that time spent practicing pays off.

He carded an 86 (nett 67) last Saturday in winds that literally knocked some golfers off their feet to win the October Monthly Mug at Umkomaas Golf Club.

He put on an exceptional pitching display which helped ensure his best-ever score at his home club and is evidence that he will soon be competing in the B division.

Khan also took top spot in the C Division with 39 points, with runner-up Rex Clark just behind on a very good score of 38 points.

B Division was won on 36 points by Mike Madsen with Bruce Sutcliffe two points behind in second.

The wind seemed to create more challenges for the lower handicappers with the A division won on 33 points by Russell Cumming and Mike Dennison in second on 29 points. Natalie Singer won the ladies division on 77 nett.

It’s all systems go as the club gears up to welcome both the men’s and ladies KZN Interclubs in a couple of weeks.
