Housing beneficiaries elated

Both families received houses that are electrified, equipped with ablution facilities and have a water source.

A number of Amahlongwa residents became housing beneficiaries through Umdoni Municipality‘s Phase 2 Rural Housing Project in wards 16 and 18.

Mayor Sibongile Khathi, Human Settlements MEC Jomo Sibiya and Ugu District Municipality’s mayor Sizwe Ngcobo were last week part of a housing handover ceremony to two of the housing beneficiaries, the Mbili and Nsele family.

Amahlongwa residents sing and dance during the house handover.

Both families received houses that are electrified, equipped with ablution facilities and have a water source.

Mayor Khathi congratulated the new homeowners and stressed how the municipality is working towards restoring human dignity through proper housing and services.

One of the houses handed over to an Amahlongwa family last week.

The families and community members expressed their gratitude through song and dance.
To date, 320 units of houses have been built between wards 16 and 18.

Due to the pandemic there have been many delays in this project, but it is expected to be completed next year.
