It is expected to be a double storey centre with 120 beds available.

While the centre has been operating before, it was not in good condition.

“In this new centre, senior citizens will be living here full time. This is unlike before where they arrived in the mornings and went home in the afternoon,” said Sibiya.

He added that there will be a gym area available as well as a garden for residents to use.

In ensuring that this becomes a success, the Department of Human Settlement is using an integrated approach by involving the Department of Social Development.

Sibiya concluded that the construction of this centre is also a means of showing their appreciation to the elderly for the role they have played in building our communities.
