Lekker and local Heritage Day celebrations

Those in attendance were dressed in traditional attire and were treated to live performances by local artists, from both sides of the Umtamvuna River.

It was an all heritage affair at the Riverside Aqua Sports and Beach Bar at the Wild Coast Sun last Friday.

The Local is Lekker event was held in commemoration of Heritage Day.

Those in attendance were dressed in traditional attire and were treated to live performances by local artists, from both sides of the Umtamvuna River.

Sifiso ‘Fistos’ Dlamini of Zikhuba (left) and Mfundiso Dlamini kept everyone in attendance entertained with their fusion of Maskandi and rap music.

“The theme is celebrating our heritage through class and style. We thought it vital to have it close to the Umtamvuna River because it signifies the point of unity between Ray Nkonyeni Municipality and the Winnie Madikizela Municipality.

We wanted to create a platform to showcase our different cultures while bringing people together,” said host Siyalithatha Mzaidume of Siyalithata Ilizwe Pty Ltd.

The crowd was treated to Masikandi, Kwaito and various other musical performances.

Local designers from Port Edward showcased their apparel, some of which were modelled by finalists from Miss Port Edward as well as other aspiring models representative of all races in the country.

“Local is Lekker are sessions that began in April, with some already having been held at Beaver Creek Coffee Estate.

We are all about showcasing our own and the talent that is here. We are glad to have had the chance to host an event like this, commemorating such a great holiday,” Siyalithatha said.
