St Martin de Porres School celebrates deaf awareness month

The school hosted a special event to honour deaf awareness month, which was in September.

September is Deaf Awareness Month and St Martin de Porres School hosted a special assembly to celebrate this occasion.

The deaf awareness committee hosted some fun activities for the staff to test their sign language skills and to create awareness about communication strategies to use when communicating with a deaf person.

Guest of honour, Caylisha Moodley, who attended the school’s public sign language classes on Saturdays, was invited to the event, and shared what she had learnt during these classes.

She gave a speech entirely in sign language, which impressed everyone in attendance.

She also shared how much she enjoyed attending these classes. If anyone is interested in learning sign language you can contact the school on 039 6825725.
