Blow Out bodyboarding compo: The Return

The main sponsors were Comfort Cool Air Conditioning, The Grove Restaurant and Mr Clean.

Blow Out Bodyboarding Club made history with one of the biggest turnouts in the club’s history, in its first competition of the year at Margate beach last Sunday. The club also celebrated its 30th birthday this year.

Established in 1991, one of the club’s founders, Kelly Footit created the club for bodyboarders so that they could surf against their own age group, as well as develop the sport on the South Coast.

The club has bred a handful of South African champions such as Derek Footit, David Lee, Craig Geddes, Wayne Beekman, Martin Otto, Wesley Coetzee, Dune Barker, Natasha van Niekerk and Storm Prestwich, to name a few.

The club welcomes everyone that enjoys riding waves on a bodyboard. It’s purely for the love of the sport and it’s a great way to keep in shape and test your skills against like-minded individuals.

“Our revival contest was a huge success with over 60 entries, a personal best for the club thus far and we are expecting an even bigger event to follow. We were lucky to have been blessed with great weather for the day of competition. Waves were small but very contestable and we witnessed some amazing riding from all the divisions,” said club media liaison Terence Pieters.

“We would just like to thank everyone who was a part of the contest from the spectators to the officials and to all the parents for bringing their children from far and wide. Also a huge shout out to our sponsors that contributed greatly to this event,” he added

The main sponsors were Comfort Cool Air Conditioning, The Grove Restaurant and Mr Clean. “Last but not least we would like to thank all the riders for taking part in our event. It is so great to know that our sport is still thriving and we hope to see all of you back for the next competition.”
