Alistair inducted as new president for Sheppie Lions

Five new members were officially inducted by District Governor Jeff Smith.

Port Shepstone Lions, Lion Ladies and guests celebrated the club’s 51st annual presidential induction at its den at Port Shepstone Country Club last Saturday.

Guests included Zone Chairman Colin and Lion Carol Mackintosh from the Scottburgh Lions Club, Di van Dyk, CEO of South Coast Hospice, and Lt-Col Harold Olkers from Port Shepstone Saps.

The new members were Rob Daly (sponsored by Alastair Warman), Wilko Kunz (sponsored by Gary Vogt), Kyle Enslin (sponsored by Mike Heathcote), as well as Mike Peniston and Brett Medcalf, both sponsored by Paul Brauteseth.

During his valedictory speech, outgoing club president, Mike Heathcote paid tribute to both the club members for a successful year of community service and fundraising projects despite the current challenging circumstances and restrictions.

Lion of the Year was Denis Meyer, in recognition of his outstanding support and ongoing commitment.

President’s appreciation medals were awarded to Jean Masson, Gary Vogt and Kevin Ross.

Stirrer of the Year was Justin Hinchliff.

Club secretary and treasurer medals were presented to Denis Meyer and Richard Borradaile respectively.

Fifteen year membership pins were presented to Mike Heathcote, Gary Vogt, Nico de Jong and Kevin Ross while 10 year membership pins were presented to Barry van der Veen and Alister Love.

Outgoing Lion Lady President Sandy Heathcote praised the ladies for their ongoing projects in support of the needy.

Appreciation gifts were presented to secretary Debbie Marshall and treasurer Jane Massey.

The Lion Lady of the Year award was presented to Estelle O’Neill in recognition of her tireless efforts with a number of projects.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of a cheque to the value of R20 000 to South Coast Hospice CEO Di Van Wyk.

This donation was made possible through the club’s fundraising initiatives throughout the year.

District Governor Jeff Smith formally inducted Alastair Warman as new club president.

In his acceptance speech, Alastair thanked his predecessor for his outstanding leadership of the club and undertook to further promote membership growth, fellowship and increased service activities for the forthcoming year.

He also announced that Estelle O’Neill had agreed to serve as the ladies’ president for the forthcoming year.
