Two shot, set alight by armed mob

Police found the completely burnt bodies of the men lying in the rear bin of the bakkie.

TWO men from KwaCele, near Scottburgh, were found burnt to death in a bakkie in Olwasini, near Dududu last Saturday.

It is alleged that six men from Bhakajane Ward, inland from Scottburgh, were travelling in a bakkie at about 1am when they came under attack by a group of people.

Four of the men managed to escape but Simiso Hlongwa (30) and Mduduzi Masinga (33) were attacked by an armed mob.

“The two men were shot, placed in the rear of the bakkie and set alight,” said police spokesman Captain Vincent Pandarum.

Two of the men who escaped ran to the Scottburgh SAPS and reported the attack. The Scottburgh SAPS in turn radioed the Dududu SAPS at about 3.20am to inform them of the attack.

Police found the completely burnt bodies of the deceased lying in the rear bin of the bakkie. Later that morning, the other two men emerged from the bushes where they had hidden from their attackers. One of them had sustained a chop wound to his head and was taken by relatives to the GJ Crookes Hospital in Scottburgh.

“No arrests have been made as yet. The Dududu SAPS Detectives are investigating two counts of murder. The motive for the attack is yet to be established, as witnesses are unable to identify their attackers and are still traumatised,” said Capt Pandarum.

A spent 9mm cartridge was recovered at the scene.

The community is advised that, in the event of the Dududu SAPS landline being out of service, the police station can be contacted at 078 4492802.
