Two Harding policemen killed in accident

The National Commissioner and his management team are deeply saddened by the sudden death of these members.

Two members stationed at the Harding police station died after they were struck by a vehicle last Sunday (April 25).

Police spokesman, Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo said the pair were busy combing an accident scene for clues at the time of the incident.

“The pair sadly succumbed to their injuries on scene,” he added.

The members have been identified as Sergeant Alfred Gqumani (36) and Constable Sifiso Ngcobo (34).

Six police members died on the same day in two separate incidents.

Four policemen were killed instantly following a collision between the police vehicle they were travelling in and a truck near Engcobo in the Eastern Cape.

The four members, part of a SAPS team deployed to the area to conduct crime prevention and awareness campaigns, were travelling back home, also on Sunday from the Chris Hani District when the accident occurred.

The National Commissioner and his management team are deeply saddened by the sudden death of these members.

General Khehla John Sitole says the organisation was still looking forward to the members contribution in crime fighting initiatives.

“The organisation has been dealt a severe blow by the sudden passing of these young energetic members. The news of their untimely passing has sent shockwaves through the corridors of every police precinct in the country. We take this opportunity to thank their families for allowing their children to serve the people of this country with diligence until their very last breathe,” said General Sitole.
