Village Eagles sizzle at Scottburgh

The clever people who measured it tell me that it gets hot in summer and cold in winter because of the 23.5 degree tilt of Earth’s axis. Well, I have news for them. Last Tuesday at the Scottburgh Golf Club, planet Earth fell down and the tilt of the axis increased to something like 33.5

The clever people who measured it tell me that it gets hot in summer and cold in winter because of the 23.5 degree tilt of Earth’s axis.

Well, I have news for them.

Last Tuesday at the Scottburgh Golf Club, planet Earth fell down and the tilt of the axis increased to something like 33.5 degrees.

Some of the golfers headed straight to a little town called Hotazel in the Karoo just to cool off.

There was no need for the ladies to tell us men to take a cold shower, we did it voluntarily.

From this you should gather that the Village Eagles Golf day at Scottburgh last Tuesday was held in midsummer heat rather than the autumn weather we expected to experience.

Nevertheless, a good day was had by all of the 76 Eagles that pitched up to play.

Greeted by a golf course in great condition meant that the golf was hot as well.

Credit must go to the management of Scottburgh Golf Club for the way they have risen to the challenges all golf courses face in these trying times.

From the moment the Eagles started to fly in till the time they took off again the Scottburgh experience was first class. Our thanks to all concerned.

Talking about hot golf it is now when I list the hottest of them all.

The winning score of 88 points was scored by the team of Frank Shaw, Henry Hampson, Ian McKenzie and Ian Baird.

Second placed Ben Enslin, Jim Holness, Trevor Bell and Noel Jessup missed out by one point.

The best male gofer was Derek Hodge playing his first game after an extended trip to England.

He was joined on the podium by the best lady golfer Ann Westwood.

The heavy Stone Trophy was picked up by Neville Lloyd, Roly Tickle (no, he didn’t think it funny), Ron Clark and Pearl Lloyd.

Thanks go to our regular sponsors for their continuing support.
