Public warned against violent protests

These persons also face the impact of having a criminal record which could affect their possibility of finding employment.

A number of people have been arrested and charged in Ezinqoleni and Betania for public violence and other related charges after engaging in protests last week.

According to police spokesman, Captain Petros Mpinge, some have appeared in court and were released on a warning, while others are yet to appear.

These persons also face the impact of having a criminal record which could affect their possibility of finding employment.

The danger also lies in sustaining injuries during the protest action.

“The public are urged to refrain from such violent protest action.

The principles laid down by the Constitution regulate protest action and are limited within certain boundaries.

Destroying infrastructure and looting are evidence of criminal behavior and those persons participating in such action will face the legal consequences when they are arrested,” said Capt. Mpinge.
