Tweni accident injures three

Motorists are urged to obey the rules of the road.

THREE people were slightly injured in a motor vehicle accident at the traffic light intersection at Rethman Drive, Umtentweni  last night at around 6pm.

At almost at the same time, a 15-year-old girl was killed when she was knocked down by a vehicle in the Murchison area. A culpable homicide docket was opened.

Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said the number of motor vehicle accidents on the South Coast is alarming.

“We have found that, in some cases, motorists show a total disregard for adhering to speed limits, they ignore traffic lights and double barrier lines and overtake where they are not supposed to do so,” she said.

Lt-Col Wiid said the proper following distance is also blatantly ignored.

“We appeal to all motorists to follow the rules of the road and have consideration for other road users,” she said.
