Residents are demanding the tarring of roads in Louisiana.

Protesting community members arrived as early as 2am, followed later by Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) Law Enforcement and the Saps.

“Our reason for being here is that we have asked the municipality to tar Ring Road, and seeing that we have not received a response we’re here today,” said Couloured Thunzi, one of the protest leaders.

“The road is only getting worse, there are parts in the area that taxis cannot get into, and people have to walk long distances from where the taxi drops them,”

Members of Saps were seen engaging in negotiations with community leaders.

Amongst their demands is a meeting with RNM Mayor Councillor Nomusa Mqwebu to hear and heed their service delivery needs.

Municipal manager Max Mbili, as well as councillors and Exco members Makhosezwe Mpisi and Sipho Dlamalala, were present to address the protesting community residents.

The road leading into Rethman Drive from Oshabeni is inaccessible due to protest action.

Taxis going to KwaMadlala cannot use that route.

Taxis coming from KwaMadlala and surrounding areas are encouraged to go through Mayville and join the R102.
