Search is on for monkey shooter

There has been a 'monkey shooter' in the Southport area for some time now, and Amanda is calling on the community to report the individual.

Residents are looking for the ‘Southport shooter’ after a female monkey died after being shot in the head last week Monday.

The monkey, thought to be about three years old, was surrendered to Amanda de Villiers of Southport.

The wounded monkey would later succumb to its injuries.

There has been a ‘monkey shooter’ in the Southport area for some time now, and Amanda is calling on the community to report the individual.

The injured monkey was taken to Umsizi Umkomaas Vervet Rescue Centre, however it died before going to the vet.

Tracy Rowles runs the non-profit organisation which rescues, rehabilitates and releases monkeys while placing importance on changing the attitudes and perceptions towards these misunderstood creatures.

Tracy urged residents to be proactive and report those who use air rifles to the Saps.
