Loiterers nabbed and shacks destroyed in joint operation

The bushes were cleared from St Michael's to Manaba beach.

Margate Saps and Ray Nkonyeni Municipality law enforcement last week held a joint bush clearance operation with local security companies, as well as members of Uvongo Community Policing Forum (CPF) to improve the safety of residents in Manaba, Uvongo and St Michael’s.

The bushes were cleared from St Michael’s to Manaba beach.

“Two men aged, 29 and 35 were arrested and charged for loitering. A number of shack dwellings were also destroyed,” said police spokesman, Sergeant Sibu Ncane.

Prior to this operation, a man was arrested after he robbed a woman who was walking along Lillecrona Boulevard in Manaba. Swift response from the police and a security company resulted in the arrest.

Uvongo CPF chairman, Ernest Booysen thanked everyone who was involved in this successful operation.

Margate station commander, Brigadier William Slabbert applauded the initiative and added that the good working partnership between Margate Saps and all stakeholders always yielded good results.
