Umdoni councillor ‘Tikka Ally’ leaves a void

Councillor Ally was an Inkatha Freedom Party leader since its founding as a political party, serving as an ordinary member for almost 30 years before going on to be a councillor at both Umdoni and Ugu municipalities.

Mohamed Ally (68), known as ‘Tikka Ally’ by most, died on October 13.

Councillor Ally was an Inkatha Freedom Party leader since its founding as a political party, serving as an ordinary member for almost 30 years before going on to be a councillor at both Umdoni and Ugu municipalities.

He joined Umdoni Municipality in August 2016 where he served as a member of the Municipal Public Accounts Committee and Finance Portfolio Committee.

The municipality’s communications manager, Sphelele Cele described Cllr Ally’s time in office as “meaningful”, adding that he had made positive contributions to the development of the Umdoni community.

The IFP’s Ugu District chairman, Sfundo Ngwane said that Cllr Ally was “an excellent community bridge-builder”.

“He saw no race, creed or colour in any human being. His selfless service, even during the Covid-19 pandemic, in providing relief packages and food parcels to the communities of Umzinto, Skenterton, Dududu and surrounding areas will always be remembered and appreciated.”

The IFP, Umdoni Municipality and Mayor, Thabani Dube, extend their condolences to Cllr Ally’s family, friends and colleagues.
