According to the police, pre-owned vehicles are advertised for sale and buyers are requested to pay a deposit upfront to secure the deal.

Spokesman, Captain Petros Mpinge said the vehicles are advertised at such bargain prices that the buyer rushes to pay the deposit in order not to lose out on a great buy.

“The prospective purchaser is also requested to make an additional payment as settlement and then a storage fee for the vehicle is demanded before the vehicle is delivered.

“At the time delivery is expected, the seller’s cellphone is disconnected, and the buyer realises that they have been conned.”

Captain Mpinge added that it is strongly advised to verify the authenticity of the deal before making purchases and to rather purchase vehicles from registered dealers.
