Get gardening, urges councillor Cele

Councillor Noah Cele pointed out the many benefits of starting a vegetable garden.

Councillor Noah Cele is encouraging residents in Ward 13 to take the initiative to plant vegetable gardens to fight hunger.

“I want the community of Fairview Mission, Umzumbe to put more effort into setting up vegetable gardens at their homes,” he said.

Cllr Cele cited the Covid-19 pandemic as a reason to get gardening.

“Subsistence farming is the key these days. It’s time to work our gardens as food prices are going to skyrocket.”

He said a large piece of land is not required.

“It’s simple, ‘one home, one garden’.

“Working in your garden also has other benefits. It keeps you busy, it destresses you, you get some exercise and ultimately, it’s food security for your household. The surplus can also be sold in the community,” said Cllr Cele.
