Gamalakhe Police Station closes for deep cleaning after Covid-19 case confirmation

Gamalakhe Police Station was temporarily closed after an officer tested positive for Covid-19.
The station was evacuated for deep cleaning and decontamination in line with SAPS protocols, while members who who had come into contact with the infected officer were undergoing screening and testing as a precaution, KwaZulu-Natal police spokesman Brigadier Jay Naicker said.

Nokubonga Mqadi said she was very worried as this meant there was a chance that others in the community had been infected. “Reality has just kicked in. We all thought this pandemic would not really affect us, but the fact is that it’s now right on our doorstep,” she said.
According to Brig Naicker, alternative arrangements had been made to ensure services continue. “The station will operate from the ZG Hall while the rest of the staff undergo tests. Service delivery will not be hampered while this takes place,” he assured.
