A 48-year-old man, believed to be a holidaymaker from the Free State, drowned at Margate main beach earlier today (Tuesday).

According to police spokesman, Sergeant Sibu Ncane the man was taken from the water by lifeguards but was declared dead by paramedics.
“He has not yet been officially identified,” he added.
Police have opened a case for investigation.
