Coronavirus rumours ‘false’, says Margate RJ’s

RJ’s Margate and Shisha Lounge operator Brandon Lehmann, has said that the rumour going around on social media – that one of its staff and their child had tested positive for COVID-19 (coronavirus)  – is 100 percent false.

“I urge anyone who has seen the message to please delete it, and correct the sender in order to stop the spread of this false information!” he said.

“A meeting was held on Monday with all our staff regarding the current national pandemic on how to ensure safety and implement sanitary precautions. My waiters were all present.”

He reiterated that there was no truth whatsoever in the rumour circulating on various social media platforms.

“Furthermore, there hasn’t been a confirmed case of the virus on the South Coast as yet and, if there was, it would have been made public by all the necessary media outlets.”

Mr Lehmann explained that he has contacted Youngs Pharmacy, Margate Netcare Hospital, Lancet Laboratory and the government hospitals (mentioned in the rumours) and, according to his feedback, no such cases exist.

Confirmation of infection, before being reported, needs to be officially confirmed by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases, and not a doctor, pharmacist or man on the street.

“In a press release issued last week all relevant health facilities said that any and all updates and cases would be made public by them when a case was confirmed in order to notify the community.”
